I enjoy working with soft pastels because, as a medium, pastels force one to step back and view their art from a distance bringing clarity to the work. Too much of today's society is dealing with tiny screens directly in front of our noses, computer monitors a foot away on our desk or small problems that we laser focus our attention on to the exclusions of everything else. I believe that in order to enjoy this world, we must periodically "step back" and view things from a little more of a distance. Then, and only then, as in pastels - we may find clarity.
